The WIAA’s newly released 2026-27 Division 3 girls basketball sectional assignments carry an unusual distinction: both of last year’s second-half sectional champions — Oostburg and Kettle Moraine Lutheran — have been promoted to Division 2, while two Division 2 programs and a Division 4 dropout fill in behind them.

Two champions, gone up a level

Oostburg won last year’s Sectional 3 title 62–43, and Kettle Moraine Lutheran took Sectional 4 with a 70–43 win. Both are now Division 2 programs for 2026-27, confirmed on this year’s Division 2 assignment sheet in the same new Sectional 3.

Marinette and Green Bay East arrive from Division 2

Filling part of the gap, Marinette and Green Bay East both played Division 2 basketball in 2025-26 and drop to Division 3 for 2026-27, landing together in Sectional 2.

Barron drops to Division 4

Barron played Division 3 basketball in 2025-26 but doesn’t appear on the 2026-27 Division 3 sheet; the 2026-27 Division 4 assignments confirm the Golden Bears have moved down, landing in Division 4 Sectional 1.

The two surviving champions land together

Saint Croix Central and Wisconsin Dells, which won last year’s Sectional 1 and Sectional 2 titles respectively, both land in the same Sectional 1 for 2026-27 — a pairing similar to the boys Division 1 story where two reigning sectional champions were placed in the same bracket.

Sectional 2025-26 Champion Sectional Final 2026-27
Sectional 1 Saint Croix Central 58–41 sectional final Sectional 1
Sectional 2 Wisconsin Dells 57–51 sectional final Sectional 1
Sectional 3 Oostburg 62–43 sectional final Division 2
Sectional 4 Kettle Moraine Lutheran 70–43 sectional final Division 2
