The WIAA’s newly released 2026-27 Division 2 girls basketball sectional assignments grow the bracket from 80 schools to 89, absorbing a five-school wave down from Division 1 — Notre Dame, Holmen, Homestead, Racine Horlick and Racine Park — alongside a notable promotion from below: two of last year’s Division 3 sectional champions.
Two Division 3 champions arrive
Oostburg won last year’s Division 3 Sectional 3 title with a 62–43 sectional-final victory, and Kettle Moraine Lutheran took the Division 3 Sectional 4 crown with a 70–43 win. Both programs move up to Division 2 for 2026-27, landing together in the new Sectional 3.
Marinette and Green Bay East head to Division 3
The traffic runs both ways. Marinette and Green Bay East both played Division 2 basketball in 2025-26 and have dropped to Division 3 for 2026-27, each landing in that division’s Sectional 2.
Sectional reshuffling among the returners
Rice Lake, last year’s Sectional 1 champion, and Elkhorn, last year’s Sectional 2 champion, both return to the same sectional number for 2026-27. Beaver Dam, which won last year’s Sectional 3, and Whitefish Bay, last year’s Sectional 4 champion, both shift down a sectional number to Sectional 2 and Sectional 3, respectively — a reminder that sectional numbering resets each year based on geography, not on carrying over the prior year’s bracket position.

Regionals for the 2026-27 season are set for February 23, 26 and 27, with sectional semifinals on March 4 and sectional finals on March 6. The state tournament follows March 11-12-13, 2027.
