TOWN OF WORDEN, WI (OnFocus) – Two children were airlifted to a hospital Thursday morning after a pickup truck struck their bicycles on County Highway N near Fernwall Avenue in the Town of Worden, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the crash was reported at about 7:29 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
Initial investigation indicates a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on County Highway N, west of Fernwall Avenue, when it approached two bicycles that were also heading east. The driver of the pickup told investigators the sun was in his eyes and he did not see the bicycles before the collision.
The bicycles, ridden by a 7-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, were struck and forced into the south ditch, officials said.
Emergency crews from Thorp Area Fire and EMS treated both children at the scene. They were later flown by Lifelink and Mayo helicopters to Marshfield Hospital with serious injuries.
The pickup driver, a 17-year-old boy, stopped immediately after the crash on the south shoulder of the road. Authorities said he was not injured.
Officials also noted that passing motorists who witnessed the crash stopped and provided first aid to the children almost immediately.
Responding agencies included the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Thorp Area Fire and Ambulance Service, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and emergency medical personnel.
The crash remains under investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Because all of those involved are minors, their names have not been released.
