MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The North Wood County Historical Society is kicking off 2026 with a diverse schedule of educational programs, community celebrations, and volunteer opportunities designed to engage residents of all ages.
The season begins on February 11 with a Spoken History presentation titled “Moonshine in the Wisconsin Northwoods.” Local historian Jim Bokern will share stories of Wisconsin moonshiners in the North Woods, including tales connected to area residents. The program will take place from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Adler Room at the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library. Bokern, a Manitowish Waters historian and former Marshfield High School history teacher, is known for bringing regional history to life through engaging storytelling.
On February 21, the Society will participate in the Marshfield Cultural Fair, where visitors will have the unique opportunity to sign a replica of the Declaration of Independence. The interactive exhibit offers a hands on way to connect with American history while celebrating the diverse cultures represented in the community.
Looking ahead to March, preparations will begin on March 5 as volunteers gather to fill plastic Easter eggs with goodies for the annual Bring on Spring celebration. Community members interested in lending a hand are encouraged to get involved.
The Society will also support the Wisconsin Genealogy Conference, known as “Gene A Rama,” on March 27 and 28. The conference brings together family historians and researchers from across the region to explore genealogy resources, research strategies, and historical records.
The season concludes with two community centered events on March 28: participation in Gene A Rama activities and the Bring on Spring Egg Hunt and Food Drive. The egg hunt promises family friendly fun, while the food drive provides an opportunity for residents to give back and support neighbors in need.
The North Wood County Historical Society continues its mission to preserve and share the rich history of the region through educational programming, partnerships, and community engagement.
