RICHFIELD TOWNSHIP, WI (OnFocus) – A 57-year-old Marshfield man was critically injured Saturday night after authorities said he fled from a Wood County sheriff’s deputy on a motorcycle before crashing into a ditch in Richfield Township.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded at about 9:04 p.m. July 11 to a driving complaint involving a motorcycle near County Road V and County Road H in the Town of Lincoln. A deputy located the motorcycle and attempted a traffic stop on County Highway N, but the rider failed to stop and attempted to elude law enforcement.
Authorities said the motorcycle traveled east on County Highway N before turning north onto Lincoln Avenue. Near Clark Drive, the motorcycle left the roadway and crashed into the east ditch. The rider, who was the motorcycle’s only occupant, was ejected.
The rider, identified as Kyle Wendt, 57, of Marshfield, was taken to Marshfield Medical Center with injuries from the crash. The sheriff’s department said Wendt was in critical condition.
Investigators believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Marshfield Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Town of Richfield Fire Department, Marshfield Ambulance and Nieman’s Towing and Recovery.
