MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield football team wrapped up its second-straight Valley Football Association West Division title with a dominant 36-0 shutout of Oshkosh North on Friday night at Beell Stadium for its Homeconming Game.

Marshfield remains unbeaten, running its record to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the VFA West, while Oshkosh North falls to 0-7 and 0-6 in the VFA South.

Marshfield scored on five-straight possessions from the middle of the second quarter through early in the fourth as only they stopped themselves.

Two fumbles in the first quarter, following a 2-yard touchdown run by Brant Bohman on the opening drive, kept the score at 7-0 until Marshfield finally got its offense rolling.

Bohman scored again from the 13 early in the second quarter and Mason Coffren kicked a 25-yard field goal with 1:57 to go before halftime to make it 17-0 at the break.

2018 marks the final play of varsity football at Beell Stadium. Beell Stadium was dedicated in September of 1941, honoring the only Marshfield Police Department officer to die in the line of duty.

To celebrate the legacy of Beell Stadium and provide support for the new athletic facility, special commemorative apparel is now available. A portion of every sale will be donated to the athletic fund. Please share post. http://premierprintinginc.com/product-category/beell-shirts/

Following an Oshkosh North fumble on the first possession of the second half, which was recovered by Alex Steines, the Tigers wasted little time in finding the end zone when quarterback Ryan Krueger connected with Joey Goettl for a 44-yard touchdown.

“We’re a running football team, that’s what we are, but I’m a passing guy and I want to throw the football, and we have to work on those things,” Marshfield coach Denny Goettl said. “You get later in the year, running the football is going to win tournament games because it’s getting cold, throwing is tough, but we have to be able to catch the football and complete passes.

“There were some things we could run, so we were ‘ Let’s do this,’ and it’s the first time we had a long pass in while, to Joe down the middle, that was a good play by Ryan and him.”

Jackson Ott recovered another North fumble on the Spartans’ third play, Marshfield went 56 yards in 10 plays, ending with 6-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Will Voss to Caden Pearce, pushing the Tigers’ lead to 30-0.

Marshfield’s Riley Boushack intercepted a North pass near the end of the third quarter and the Tigers capped the scoring on the ensuing possession when Sam Hinson ran in from the 4, making it 36-0.

Bohman finished with 114 yards rushing and the two first-half touchdowns to lead the Tigers’ offense.

While the conference title is one step in the season, the Tigers have more ambitions on the horizon.

“We’ve got goals ahead of us – win the next game, and our biggest goal is to win a playoff game,” Denny Goettl said. “We haven’t done that for a lot of years. So if we can win a playoff game, we’ll call it a success for the season.

Marshfield hosts D.C. Everest next Friday, Oct. 5, in the final regular-season home varsity football game at Beell Stadium. Marshfield will be opening a new stadium at the high school beginning next season. The game begins at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com, and live-streamed at zaleskisportsshow.com and on its Facebook page.
