OnFocus – The newest member of the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department has passed his probation period and has begun his full-time duties serving on the green shift.

Jacob Kenowski spent five years with the Port Edwards Fire Department and two years with Nekoosa Ambulance before beginning his career with MFRD last year.

MFRD has three separate shifts labeled blue, green and red shifts. Kenowski’s duties on green shift will not only include firefighting and providing emergency medicine, but also cleaning apparatus, cleaning the station, training, and more.

Kenowski said his hard work in training has paid off and he’s excited to continue serving the citizens of Marshfield.

“Knowing how hard I worked to achieve getting off of probation, it honestly feels amazing and I do feel proud of what I have accomplished,” Kenowski said. “I am happy to say that I have been serving the Marshfield community and surrounding communities from day one, and I feel great to have the opportunity to give back and do my part by serving.”

During his probationary year, Kenowski was handed a binder that has policies, procedures and tests which he had to work through in order to pass his probation.

Despite the rigorous studying and physical tests he had to go through, Kenowski said he wouldn’t trade the job for anything.

Kenowski has been around firefighters and trucks his whole life.

“I can honestly say that being a firefighter/paramedic is the greatest job in the world,” Kenowski said. “I love my job, have great co-workers, and great leadership that makes every day at work amazing.”

Kenowski said he has many people to thank for helping him get through the training and intense schedule it required.

“I want to thank my field training officers Lance Christopher, and Joe Vanden Elzen for working with me, and showing me how Marshfield operates,” Kenowski said. “I also want to thank my family and my fiancé Faith for adapting to my schedule and being supportive.”

Kenowski’s father was a firefighter so he has been around fire trucks and everything that comes with being a first responder his whole life.

“I grew up climbing on all the different engines, learning everything about them and wanted to do it since I was little,” Kenowski said.
