CENTRAL WISCONSIN, WI (OnFocus) – An Extreme Cold Watch remains in effect through 12:00 PM Saturday as dangerously cold conditions are expected across portions of Minnesota and Wisconsin, according to weather officials.

Forecasters warn that wind chill values could drop to between 35 and 40 degrees below zero from Thursday evening through Saturday morning. These conditions pose a serious risk to anyone exposed to the cold for extended periods.

The watch includes areas of southeast Minnesota and central, north central, and west central Wisconsin. Counties affected include Wabasha, Dodge, Olmsted, Winona, Mower, Fillmore, Taylor, Clark, Buffalo, Trempealeau, and Jackson.

Meteorologists caution that wind chills of this magnitude can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Prolonged exposure may also increase the risk of hypothermia.

Residents are urged to take precautions if travel or outdoor activity is unavoidable. Officials recommend dressing in multiple layers, including a hat, face mask, and insulated gloves. Pets should be kept indoors as much as possible during the cold spell.

Local authorities continue to monitor conditions and advise the public to stay informed through official weather updates as the cold event develops.
