MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – Marshfield officials could take up a possible city wheel tax discussion at a future meeting after a council member asked Tuesday for the issue to be placed on an upcoming agenda.

District 9 Alderman Richard Kranz asked the city to consider a $25 municipal vehicle registration fee, commonly known as a wheel tax, as a possible funding source for streets, sidewalks, sewer-related work or other infrastructure needs.

No vote was taken Tuesday, and no ordinance was introduced.

The request came during the council’s future agenda items portion of the meeting. City staff said the item could be brought back for discussion at a later date.

Several Wisconsin municipalities use local vehicle registration fees to help pay for transportation-related costs. If adopted in Marshfield, the fee would be added to vehicle registrations for eligible vehicles kept in the city.
