Marshfield’s Sander Marty: Pancakes or Waffles?

Marshfield Tiger Sander Marty has achieved as a swimmer throughout his career as a Tiger.  Marty has helped lead the Tigers’ swimming team to significant success this year, and despite being tough to catch by other swimmers, we were able to catch up with Marty with the world-famous interview: ‘Pancakes or Waffles?’ to learn more about what makes Marty ‘tick’ as a student-athlete.

OnFocus: What classes are you taking this year?

Marty: Honors Orchestra, Honors Jewelry, AP US History, AP Euro, AP Lit.

OnFocus: What is your favorite class?

Marty:  AP European History.

OnFocus: What are your hobbies?

Marty: Swimming, cello, drawing, playing with my dog.

OnFocus:  Who is/was your favorite teacher?

Marty: Mr. Knecht.

OnFocus: What is the most unusual food you have eaten?

Marty: Takoyaki – battered and fried octopus and cheese.

OnFocus: What is your favorite music to listen to?

Marty: Pop.

OnFocus: What are your plans after high school?

Marty: Going to UW Madison in the fall majoring in Chemical Engineering.

OnFocus: If they made a movie about you, and your life,  what would it be called?

Marty: To Japan and Back (I guess).

OnFocus: What sports do you play?

Marty: Swimming.

OnFocus: Which teammate would you not want to be stranded with on a deserted island?

Marty: Myles, when it’s time to eat someone he has no meat on his bones.

OnFocus: What is your most memorable moment as an athlete?

Marty: Probably breaking the 200 Medley Relay team record in 2019-2020.

OnFocus: Who is your favorite athlete?

Marty: Michael Phelps.

OnFocus: What do you enjoy most about home meets?

Marty: Throwing Coach Karrels and anyone else nearby into the pool afterward.

OnFocus: What’s the best thing about being a student-athlete at Marshfield Area Senior High School?

Marty: It’s like a family.

OnFocus: What words of wisdom can you give to other student-athletes?

Marty: Don’t upset coach.

OnFocus: Lastly, pancakes or waffles?

Marty: Waffles.
