MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) — The Marshfield Board of Public Works approved a $229,855 contract amendment Tuesday for construction phase services tied to the Wildwood Plaza renovation project, the future home of the Marshfield Police Department.

The amendment is with BKV Group, the Minneapolis-based architectural firm previously selected to provide design services for the project. Public Works Director Josh Mauritz told the board the amendment reflects changes needed after the city shifted the project delivery method to include a construction manager.

Kraemer Brothers was selected in January to serve as construction manager for the project. Under the revised structure, BKV will serve as the city’s representative during construction and help ensure the design is carried out as planned.

The firm’s construction phase work will include reviewing submittals and shop drawings, responding to contractor questions, conducting site visits, assisting with change orders and pay applications, and monitoring alignment between the construction work, contract documents, budget and project schedule.

Mauritz said the amendment also clarifies the roles of the city, architect and construction manager to avoid duplication of services, including cost estimating, scheduling and bidding-related work.

According to city documents, the project has an $11.6 million total budget, including a $10.8 million original budget and an $800,000 grant. Current committed expenses total $10,724,545. That figure includes the construction manager’s guaranteed maximum price proposal of $9,992,000 and the newly approved architect construction phase services fee.

The board approved the amendment without opposition.

The Wildwood Plaza renovation is part of the city’s plan to create a future police department facility. The project has moved through schematic design and design development, and construction documents are being finalized.
