Marathon sends Auburndale boys basketball to third-straight loss

AUBURNDALE – Marathon held Auburndale to just 12 first-half points and sent the Apaches to their third-straight loss, winning 63-46 in a Marawood Conference South Division game on Saturday afternoon at Auburndale High School.

With the victory, Marathon finishes second in the final Marawood South standings at 13-3, one game ahead of Auburndale.

Marathon (18-4) raced out to a 29-12 lead by halftime and held the Apaches (17-5) to 34 percent shooting (16 of 47) overall int eh game.

Carter Hanke had 30 points to lead the Raiders.

Cooper Weinfurter had 13 points and Colton Wright chipped in 12 for the Apaches, but combined to shoot just 7-for-27 in the loss.

Both teams earned first-round byes in the upcoming WIAA playoffs and will host Division 4 regional semifinals on Friday, March 1. Auburndale will play the winner of Tuesday’s game between Spencer and Necedah, and Marathon will play either Colby or Abbotsford.
