Fatal Traffic Accident Involving Dump Truck

(OnFocus) On Sunday, June 14th at approximately 11:59 am, the Wood County Dispatch Center received a call of a crash between a dump truck and a passenger car at the intersection of State Highway 73 and State Highway 186 in the Town of Sigel.

During the initial investigation, deputies learned a southbound dump truck on State Hwy 186 failed to yield from the stop sign for a westbound vehicle on State Hwy 73.

The three occupants of the passenger car were entrapped. The female driver and juvenile rear passenger sustained serious injuries and were transported to Marshfield Medical Center by Life Link III and Wisconsin Rapids Ambulance respectively.

The front occupant in the passenger car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck sustained minor injuries.

State Hwy 73 and State Hwy 186 are closed and detours have been set up. The Wood County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Wisconsin State Patrol, Vesper Fire Department, United Ambulance, Wisconsin Rapids Ambulance, Life Link III, Wood County Highway Department, and the Wood County Coroner.
