Mary Lou Kirsch, age 91 of Marshfield, WI passed away peacefully on January 11, 2023.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Monday, January 16, 2023, at St. John’s Catholic Church of Marshfield, WI where the visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Father Daniel Thelen will officiate. The service will be livestreamed on www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mary Lou was born on October 28, 1931 in Marshfield, WI to Leo, Sr. and Hazel Nikolai. She was raised in Marshfield on their local dairy farm and graduated from Marshfield Senior High in 1950. She attended nursing assistant courses in Chicago for 1 year after high school and received a diploma as a Pediatric NA in 1951. On October 2, 1952, she was married to Jerome P. Kirsch at St. John’s Catholic Church in Marshfield. Mary Lou and Jerome raised their 5 children along with having a few jobs over the years. She did a lot of babysitting for neighbors and ended up working at Mid-State Technical College as a secretary for 10 years. She belonged to the McMillan 49er’s club, enjoyed baking, sewing, crocheting, playing cards and going to the casino. In 2000, Mary Lou and Jerome started to travel to Arizona and ended up staying in Apache Junction for the winters until 2014. They made many good friends there and truly enjoyed their time in Arizona. 

Mary Lou is survived by her children, Sue (Steve) Wolf of Mesa, AZ, Tom (Cindy) Kirsch of Marshfield, WI, Beth (Rob) Wickersham of Spencer, WI and Kathy (Gary) Korn of Westby, WI. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Corrine Kirsch, Nick (Katie) Wolf along with their children, Wilder and Ember, Andy (Kristi) Busscher along with their daughter, Rylea, Shannon (Derrick) Fallon along with their daughter, Maddie, Tina Wolf, Trisha (Adam) Schonfeldt along with their children, Taylor, Cooper and Parker, Katie (Jeremy) Powell along with their children, Noah and Eli, Samantha Korn, Sadie Korn and Garrison Korn. She also has 2 step grandchildren, Ashley (Darin) Holtzheimer along with their children, Braxton and Cash and Brandon (Carly Solatycki) Wickersham. Mary Lou is further survived by two brothers, Thomas Nikolai and Donald (Penny) Nikolai, her sisters-in-law, Polly Nikolai and Helen Hoff along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Sr. and Hazel Nikolai, her husband, Jerome Kirsch, her son, Daniel Kirsch, siblings: Leo Jr. (Dorothy) Nikolai, Patricia (Bud) Theis, Floyd Nikolai, Nancy (Loren) Dixon and sister-in-law, Hilda Nikolai.

In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting memorials in Mary Lou’s name to St. John’s Catholic Church in Marshfield, WI.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers from Stoney River Assisted Living and the hospice team from Promedica Hospice for their dedicated and loving support.
