Marlene Louise Vesely, 83, of Abbotsford, WI, passed away peacefully at the Marshfield Medical Center surrounded by her family on May 31, 2024. Marlene was born on July 7, 1940, to Frank and Pauline Wojciechowski.

She graduated from Athens High School in 1958 as valedictorian of her graduating class. During her time at Athens high school, she was quite the musician as she played the tuba, euphonium, and accordion. She also loved dancing to her favorite polka bands, Pat Zoromski and the Kashuba Aces.

After Marlene graduated from high school, she worked at Employers Mutual in Wausau,  then moved to Madison to work for a law firm for a period of time before returning home.

In 1959, she met the love of her life, Delmer Anthony Vesely, at Wayne and Geri Belanger’s Bar in Milan on her 19th birthday. She was in awe of his fancy 1958 MG car he brought home from the Army. He always says he “struck gold” when he met Marlene. They were married for 61 years and not a night went by that he did not say, “Goodnight, Momma.” During their time together, they played coed softball, bowled in a couple’s league, and danced their shoes off.

In 1968, Marlene and Delmer bought the grocery store, Milan Grocery, and operated it for 14 years with their three children, Blaine, Monica, and Krista.

Marlene adored her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to spend her time attending their many events. She especially enjoyed watching volleyball. Along with spending time with her grandchildren, she enjoyed playing solitaire, fishing for crappies, planting begonias, cooking Polish dishes, and bowling. She also loved to rock and sing to her first great grandchild.

Marlene was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister Irene and five brothers, Harold, Dennis, David, Eugene, and James.

She is survived by her husband, Delmer Vesely; her children Blaine (Vanessa) Vesely of Kent, OH, Monica Vesely of Lewiston, MN, and Krista (David) Keech of Abbotsford, WI; her nine grandchildren, Michael and Luke Bjork, Nora Vesely,  Kallie (Kolton) Kaduce, Jayden, Ty, and Sydney Falteisek, Kaitlyn and Kayla Keech and one great grandchild, Kasey Kaduce; as well as her sister-in-law Vivian Kremsreiter.

Visitation will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford, WI on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Lunch will be served in the basement of the church immediately following the service.
