Obituary for Marie Swetz

Marie Swetz, 90, of Blenker, passed away on her birthday, Saturday, January 16, 2021, in her home surrounded by her family.

Marie was born January 16, 1931, to the late Battista and Victoria (Coppo) Ceresero in the town of Sigel, WI.  She was a graduate of Mosinee High School. Marie was married for 68 wonderful years, to the love of her life, George F. Swetz on August 8, 1951, at St. Therese’s Catholic Church in Rothschild. He died on December 30, 2019.

Marie and her husband, George owned Swetz Oil Company, Inc. until 1991.  They also owned and operated a gift shop, Roadside Gallery, in Blenker, from 1987 to 2004.

Marie was a devoted member of St. Kilian’s Catholic Church where she was a member of the PCCW and a teacher of the parish CCD program for several years.

The joy of her heart was her family, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She loved to be outdoors.  Marie grew up on a farm and loved to drive the tractor.  She enjoyed maintaining her yard, flowers, and garden.  She always had a smile on her face, a positive attitude, and always had a grateful heart.  She would do anything for anyone.  Marie was a devoted Catholic and had a strong faith.  She especially enjoyed reading daily scripture and devotions.

Marie is lovingly survived by her three children, George C. (Helen) Swetz of Auburndale, WI, Jim (Donna) Swetz of Panama City, FL, and Victoria (Brian) Foltz of Marshfield, WI. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Pamela Swetz, Cindy (John) Dooley, Debbie (Josh) Duwe, Helen (Nathan) Tonnancour, Matthew (Kristine) Swetz, Danny (Rachel) Swetz, Neil (Kayla) Swetz, Zachary (Susan) Swetz, ReAnnin (Kiel) Des Jarlais, and 16 great-grandchildren, Sophia Swetz-Wanta, George and Jack Dooley, Enzo and Anna Duwe, Max and Quinn Tonnancour, Jack and Grant Swetz, Kai and Elodie Swetz, Tye, Theo, and Elin Swetz, Kashdyn and Keinzley Des Jarlais.

Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband, George, her parents, three brothers, John Ceresero, Robert Ceresero, and Carl Ceresero, and two grandsons, Steven George, and George Robert Swetz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Kilian’s Catholic Church in Blenker, WI on Thursday, January 21 at 11:00 A.M. officiated by Father Murali Rayappan. Due to the pandemic, social distancing and masks are required.  Visitation will take place at St. Kilian’s Catholic Church before the funeral Mass from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M.  The Mass of Christian Burial is limited to immediate family only.  Burial will take place at St. Kilian’s Catholic Church Cemetery.  Eight of Marie’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations would be given to St. Kilian’s Parish.
