Obituary for Hunter Karau

Hunter W. Karau, age 24, of White Bear Lake, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield. Rev. Matthew Korth will officiate. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 4 and from 10:00 am until service time on Wednesday at Rembs Funeral Home. If you knew Hunter you would know that he did “red pants Friday” so please feel free to wear red pants or anything red or his favorite color purple.

Hunter was born on February 16, 2000, in Marshfield, the son of Alan Karau and Nancy Pilz. He was a 2018 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School where he competed in Cross Country, and a 2022 graduate of Bethel University, St. Paul, MN, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in theater.

After his education, Hunter began his teaching career and currently was teaching 8th grade math at Skyview Middle School in White Bear Lake where he also was track coach.

Hunter had a strong love for theater and a passion for costume design. He designed costumes for many productions and worked as the costume designer for Bethel University. He loved musical productions and showtunes.

He is survived by his mother, Nancy Pilz and his father, Alan Karau, both of Marshfield, and siblings, Tanner, Emma, Lily, Alison, and Sadie. He is also survived by maternal grandparents, Nancy and Howie Poeschel, his uncle Matt, uncle and aunt, Scott and Blair and their children, Nikita and Jadzia, and his aunt Kelly. He is further survived by many theater friends, classmates, and students.

He was preceded in death by a brother Sawyer, in infancy, and great grandparents, Eleanor and Spencer Newman.
