Washburn advanced in the boys soccer playoffs, picking up a win over Northland Pines

Regional final in the slick wet rain.  Pines and Washburn went to battle and the level of play ratcheted up.  Washburn is a heavy physical team. They had big boys but our boys match the physical play.  First 12 minutes Washburn possessed and pushed the ball in their end. When we panicked early we gave up three corners and it was clear that with their size we could not give up corners as they were getting on the end of them all. When we calmed our nerves we began to posses and take control getting our own corners.  In the last ticking seconds of the half we failed to clear a ball giving up a corner and the kick was taken and our defender playing the post moved a bit as the ball was about to hit his face and it squeezed in the back of the net. Second half the ball was on Washburn end and the game started to get away and yellow cards were pulling up on both teams.  As time was running out Mason Jahnke turned played a through ball and an attacking AJ Muench got on the end of it in the box, and the defender and keeper sweeper out his legs drawing a clear foul in the box, but it was determined time ran out on the clock no foul.  Too little to late.  I am extremely proud of the perseverance, development and bringing their best in the playoffs.  No matter what seed we are we make it a nail biter of a game.  Despite our record this year we were in every game and put every team to the test and that is something to be proud of!
