MARSHFIELD – Kade McManus scored all four of Marshfield’s goals as the Tigers slipped past Wausau East 4-2 in a WIAA Division 2 boys soccer regional semifinal Tuesday at Griese Park.

McManus scored 7 minutes into the game before East’s Ryan Keefe scored twice before halftime to give the Lumberjacks a 2-1 lead going into the break.

The Tigers busted open the game in the second half behind McManus, who scored in the 58th, 68th, and 79th minutes.

“It was a physical game with Wausau East, who gave us a good contest,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “We lacked creativity on offense in the first half and East capitalized on a couple chances to lead at halftime. We came out in second half and played more of our game and created a multitude of opportunities. Credit the boys for fighting back and playing hard.

“Kade McManus scored four and finished well. He is composed in front of the net and was a difference maker for us tonight. The surface was soft and slippery but despite this the boys were able to put together some quality soccer to get the win.”

Tommy Olson made five saves in goal for Marshfield.

Marshfield (11-6-3) moves on to a Division 2 regional final matchup with No. 1 seed Green Bay Southwest (12-2-4) at 7 p.m. Saturday at Southwest High School. Southwest advanced by beating Merrill 3-0 on Tuesday.
