Class Ring Missing for 44 Years Found on Campground Beach

BANCROFT, WI (OnFocus) What started as a typical camping trip for the Rasmussen family (of Marshfield) turned into an extraordinary story of lost and found, spanning over four decades. Kyle and Stephanie Rasmussen, along with their family, were camping at Vista Royale in Bancroft when Kyle noticed something glinting in the sand.

“I saw the ring and debated between turning it in to the camp store or posting on Facebook. I figured Facebook would have more reach,” Kyle recalled. He decided to post a picture of the ring on the “Stevens Point Area: Happening Now” Facebook page.

In a matter of hours, Kyle received a message from Nichole Dusché, who wrote, “That ring is my mom’s! She lost it decades ago. I remember her telling me she lost it at a beach because my dad always had his and she never had hers!”

Her mother, Nadine Moscinski (née Hopkins), was astonished when she received the news. She called Kyle and learned that he’d found the ring on the same beach where she had lost it way back in 1980.

“My family grew up a few miles from the campground,” she said. “Me and my sister would ride our bikes there just to go swimming. When I lost the ring, I remember telling my sister ‘Oh my gosh, mom can’t find out about this.’ We made up excuses to go back and search for it. I searched for days, but through the years gave up.”

The ring, a Stevens Point Class of 1979 piece, had remained lost for 44 years. Kyle was shocked to find out the ring had been missing for so long because, remarkably, it was still in great shape despite being exposed to the elements for decades. The discovery was even more surprising given that Kyle was just casually walking the beach, while meanwhile others had been metal detecting and had somehow missed it.

“I am ecstatic about all of this,” said Nadine. “This is just unbelievable!”

For Nadine, the return of her class ring is a nostalgic reminder of her past and a reminder to never give up hope if you lose something special. As for the Rasmussen family, their camping trip has left them with a story they’ll remember for a lifetime.
