Jeff Amundson Earns Kaplan Award

OnFocus – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County has named Jeff Amundson a 2017-18 Kaplan Award recipient.

The award recognizes individuals for significant innovative improvements in instruction and/or service to students. Amundson is a senior lecturer of psychology and education. He joined the UW-Marshfield/Wood County faculty in the fall of 2013.

As a Kaplan Award recipient, Amundson receives a $250 grant from the university, matched by the UW-Marshfield/Wood County Foundation. The award honors Arthur M. Kaplan, who retired in 1993 as vice chancellor of the UW Colleges.

Amundson received the award in recognition of the work he has done during the past two years with the Ho-Chunk Nation. In the summer of 2016, he began teaching a weekly psychology class at the Ho-Chunk Nation’s campus in Black River Falls, Wis.

His students were Ho-Chunk language teachers and apprentices interested in learning contemporary teaching methods. In addition to teaching the course and serving as a mentor to the students, he worked with Ho-Chunk Nation leaders and academic experts at UW Colleges to develop a UW Colleges certificate in education.
