One Dead, One Injured in Car vs. Buggy Crash in Town of Loyal

Loyal, WI (OnFocus) – One person is dead following a crash between a horse-drawn buggy and a van on County Highway K, north of Spencer Road, in the Town of Loyal on Saturday afternoon.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office says they received a 9-1-1 call about the crash at approximately 2:51 p.m. on August 9, 2025.

According to the initial investigation, the buggy was traveling northbound on CTH K when it was struck from behind by a van, also heading northbound. Both the buggy and van came to rest in the east ditch.

Two people were inside the buggy at the time of the crash. The adult passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. A 12-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to Marshfield Medical Center for treatment.

The van had one passenger, who was not injured.

Emergency crews from Loyal Area Fire and Ambulance Service, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Marshfield Fire Ambulance Service, and the Clark County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Clark County Coroner’s Office, and Wisconsin State Patrol. The names of those involved are not being released at this time.
