Athens Multi-Sport Athlete Dayne Diethelm: “Play Every Moment Like it’s Your Last”

Athens (OnFocus) – Athens’ multi-sport athlete Dayne Diethelm has been a fixture for the Blue Jays in three sports, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. Diethelm also plans to remain in the athletic area after college, majoring in physical education.

We caught up with Diethelm to see what makes the Blue Jays’ senior ‘tick,’ with the world famous interview, ‘Pancakes or Waffles?’

OnFocus: What classes are you taking this year?

Diethelm: Normal High School classes, College Algebra, and Written/Oral Communication.

OnFocus: What is your favorite class? 

Diethelm: Phy Ed. Class.

OnFocus: What are your hobbies?

Diethelm: I like to play video games, spend time with my friends, and watch sports on TV.

OnFocus: Who is/was your favorite teacher? 

Diethelm: My Science teacher Mrs. Nelson. 

OnFocus: What is the most unusual food you have eaten? 

Diethelm:  Probably Sushi.

OnFocus: What is your favorite music to listen to? 

Diethelm: I like to listen to country but I usually try to pump myself up on game day with Post Malone.

OnFocus: What are your plans after high school? 

Diethelm: I plan to attend UW La-Crosse and major in physical education.

OnFocus: If they made a movie about you, and your life,  what would it be called? 

Diethelm: The Boys.

OnFocus: What other sports do you play?

Diethelm: I play basketball and baseball. 

OnFocus: Which teammate would you not want to be stranded with on a deserted island? 

Diethelm: Jake Denzine, he never takes anything serious lol. 

OnFocus: What is your most memorable moment as an athlete? 

Diethelm: Building a bond with your friends and teammates that you will never forget.

OnFocus: Who is your favorite athlete? 

Diethelm:  Derek Henry.

OnFocus: What do you enjoy most about playing home games? 

Diethelm:  The atmosphere of the home crowd, always being hype and being with my bros.

OnFocus: What’s the best thing about being a student-athlete at Athens?

Diethelm: Even though it might be time consuming, it keeps your day busy and builds character. 

OnFocus: What words of wisdom can you give to other student-athletes? 

Diethelm: Play every play, every moment like its your last, because in a blink of an eye, you’re done.

OnFocus: Lastly, pancakes or waffles? 

Diethelm: Well, Waffles of course.
