MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – Wildwood Park & Zoo is urging visitors to avoid feeding animals following an incident on Monday evening when a guest threw seasoned French fries into the wolf exhibit.

According to zoo staff, the event occurred around 7 PM. Fortunately, the zoo’s wolf, Malakai, did not consume the food. However, officials warn that incidents like this pose serious health risks to animals in their care.

Many human foods—especially those containing seasonings such as garlic or onion—can be harmful or even toxic to wildlife. Zoo animals are maintained on carefully managed diets tailored to their specific nutritional needs, and outside food can cause illness or interfere with their health management.

Zoo staff encourage visitors who wish to support animal enrichment to reach out directly for approved donation guidelines. Contributions of safe treats or enrichment items are welcome when coordinated through the staff building.

Wildwood Park & Zoo thanks the public for helping ensure the safety and well-being of its animals. If you notice suspicious or dangerous activity at the zoo, please alert a staff member or call 715-387-4394 (Wood County Dispatch).
