CENTRAL, WI (OnFocus) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued Tornado Watch No. 251, in effect until 8:00 PM CDT today, covering multiple counties in Wisconsin and Minnesota as severe weather moves through the region.

Affected Areas:

Central Wisconsin: Clark County

North Central Wisconsin: Taylor County

West Central Wisconsin: Buffalo, Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe, and Trempealeau Counties

Communities Under Watch Include:
La Crosse, Medford, Neillsville, Sparta, Tomah, Alma, Arcadia, Black River Falls, Wabasha, Whitehall, and Winona.

A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. While no tornadoes are currently occurring, residents should be prepared to take action quickly if a Tornado Warning is issued.

Stay tuned to local weather alerts and updates. Review your emergency plans and know where to take shelter. Have multiple ways to receive warnings (e.g., NOAA weather radio, phone alerts, local media). Avoid unnecessary travel, especially as storms begin to move through your area.

This watch is part of a broader system of potentially severe weather impacting the Upper Midwest today. Strong winds, hail, and heavy rain may accompany these storms.

Stay safe and weather-aware throughout the evening.
