SPASH Soccer Edged by Bay Port
The SPASH Girls Soccer team hosted Bay Port on Tuesday night at Goerke Field and fell to the visiting Pirates by a score of 3-2.
Amelia Castleberg opened the scoring with a goal in the 23rd minute and Bay Port countered with two goals in a one minute span late in the first half to take a 2-1 halftime lead. Castleberg would strike again on a penalty kick to tie the game just two minutes into the second half. The score remained tied until the 66th minute when Bay Port would take the lead for good.
Sophia Smith made 11 saves for SPASH who fell to 1-4 with the loss. Bay Port improved to 5-0.
“Despite the loss, there are so many positives to take from this match. We took the lead on a  solid team and got back to even after allowing those two quick goals. The girls showed a great deal of character throughout the match and gave it all they had. We will learn from our mistakes tonight and become a better team as a result.”
SPASH is back in action on Thursday when they travel to Marshfield for a WVC match.
