SPASH Gains Shutout Win in Wisconsin Valley Conference Win over Wausau East
SPASH hosted Wausau East in a Wisconsin Valley Conference match at Goerke Field on Tuesday with SPASH coming away with a 3-0 victory.
Campbell Spees opened the scoring for the Panthers on a header off a corner kick from Isabelle Stevens. Amelia Castleberg then rattled off two goals on assists from Jenna Jones and Spees to take a 3-0 lead. Sophia Smith made 3 saves in goal and the Panther defense held East scoreless to preserve the shutout. SPASH outshot East 20-4.
“We had a 20 minute stretch where we created numerous scoring opportunities and were unlucky not to score more. Our outside backs and midfielders did a good job of finding openings both through and over the defense. We will need to be more clinical with our scoring opportunities, especially when we have games where scoring chances are hard to come by. That said, I thought the girls took another step forward tonight and I am proud of their progress,” shared SPASH Head Coach Bill Loos.
