Obituary for Lorraine Schwanebeck

Jean Schwanebeck, 91, died at home in the town of Sherwood, Clark County on June 4, 2025.  She was born on July 12, 1933 to Joseph and Louisa (Patek) Urban and joined six siblings on the home farm in Veedum.  She graduated from Pittsville High School in 1951.  After high school, she worked as a secretary at Preway until her marriage to Milden Schwanebeck on June 22, 1957.

She was a farm wife and homemaker.  She was smart, talented, and creative.  She enjoyed and excelled at:  Puzzles, Scrabble, sewing, quilting, cake decorating, and baking.  Bread and pies were her specialty.   She treasured get-togethers and parties with family and friends.  She won several age group awards at local running/walking races.

She was proud of her service as a board member of the Family Health Center of Marshfield.  She was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sherwood, and of its Ladies’ Aid.

She is survived by her six children and their spouses:  Amy (Jim) Noel, Julie (Fred) Hiles, Steve (Peggy Winters), Mary (Jim Leiser), Thomas (Kristi), Tammy (John) Farrell. She is also survived by dear sisters-in-law: Loretta Schwanebeck Ward and Marjorie Urban.  She had 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milden; siblings: Anne (Elmer) Garrels, Louise (Eldon) Engelman, Joseph (Manette) Urban, Edward (Kathleen) Urban, Jim Urban, and Ellen (Bob) Karloske.

Services will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pittsville, WI on Friday, June 20th at 11:00am.  Visitation will begin at 9:00.  Burial will be at a later date.  The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Buchanan/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
