Lloyd E. “Sonny” Ress, age 89, passed away with family at his side, on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Dana’s Tender Hearts Home, Marshfield.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Town of McMillan, Marathon County, where the visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Rev. Wayne Oblender will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield, and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Sonny was born on May 18, 1936, in Rudolph. Wisconsin, to Henry and Viola (Hamus) Ress, Sr. He married Ruth M. Knutson on June 21,1958 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Marshfield, and they were married 66 years. She died on November 3, 2024. She was the love of his life.
Sonny was a hard worker all his life. He started at a young age doing various jobs and in 1955 began employment at American Can Company in Milwaukee, where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. He then moved back to Marshfield where he and Ruthy lived out their dream of operating a hobby farm.
Sonny was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He was a good dancer and loved to dance to polkas and waltzes, especially with Ruthy. He enjoyed listening to polkas and old-time country music, playing cards, shooting pool, watching the Packers, Brewers, and NASCAR, and occasionally going to the casino with Ruthy. He loved being outside sitting on his back deck but most of all he loved being with his family. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children, Danny Ress of Marshfield, Lori (Dave Felton) Ress of Spencer, and Donn (Denise) Ress of Spencer. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kim Ress, Melissa Ress, Daniel Ress, Tyler (Stacey) Ress, Stefanie (Jerrod Field) Ress, and David Ress, and two great grandchildren, Andrew and Ezra Ress. He is further survived by brothers, Floyd Ress, and Henry (Lori) Ress, Jr., all of Marshfield, and In-laws and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and sisters, Mona Hansen, Darlene Anderson, Viola Bauman, Charlene Zychowicz, and Betty Ress.
