Charles J. Cherney, 82, Marshfield, passed away with family by his side on May 30, 2025 at Serenity Living in Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 13, 2025 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, with visitation from 9:30 am until the time of service. Rev. Todd Mlsna will officiate. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will follow at McMillan Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Town of McMillan, Marathon County. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Charles was born on March 23, 1943 in Marshfield to Louis and Mary (Willman) Cherney. He attended St. John’s Catholic School and graduated from Columbus Catholic High School. Charles was united in marriage to Ruth A. Sauer on May 15, 1965 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield. She passed away on December 31, 2020.

Charles worked at Rollohome, then started Traveline, and later worked at Wick until retiring in 2001. After retirement he worked alongside his son at Craig’s Auto Repair. He was union president of Rollohome, served on St. John’s School Board, the Town Board of McMillan, International Woodworkers, and Mobile Home Council, and enjoyed his time as a 4H project leader.

He enjoyed camping, reading, remodeling homes, traveling, mini golf, and listening to country music.

He is survived by his children, Chris Cherney of Marshfield, Craig (Melissa) Cherney of Spencer and Caryn (Phil) Degneau of Marshfield. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Aubrey (Mitch) Heiden, Dana and Ryan Cherney, and Austin and Andrew Degneau and six great grandchildren, Brandon and Emilee Gebelein, Callie, Lukas, Madisyn, and Ella Heiden.

He is further survived by sister, Darlene Schmidt of Marshfield, sister in law, Marlene Cherney of Spencer, and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Louis Cherney Jr., and numerous sisters and brothers in law.
