CENTRAL WI, WI (OnFocus) – Local law enforcement agencies are warning the public about a scam text message that appears to come from the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

The message claims the recipient has an outstanding traffic ticket and must pay by June 5, 2025, to avoid penalties starting June 6. It threatens suspension of vehicle registration and driving privileges, prosecution, and damage to the recipient’s credit score. The message includes a link to a fraudulent website designed to collect personal and financial information.

The scam references a fake administrative code and directs users to a suspicious URL that does not belong to the official Wisconsin DMV.

Several reports have been made to local departments recently regarding this text. This message is not legitimate. Anyone who receives it should not click the link or provide any personal information.

If you receive a suspicious message and are unsure about its legitimacy, contact your local law enforcement agency before taking any action.
