WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (OnFocus) – Sixteen-year-old Aubrey Pidgeon (WawaKsamKwe), a junior at Lincoln High School, will be representing Wisconsin at the National Showcase in Detroit, Michigan, on July 29 and 30. The National Showcase is a premier competition for “showcase” figure skating – a discipline that combines theatrical performance and technical skating, often described as “theater on ice.”
Aubrey will compete against 136 skaters in the Preliminary Character Showcase event and 100 skaters in the Preliminary Emotional Showcase event. She is the only skater from Wisconsin competing in the Preliminary Character level this year.
To qualify for Nationals, Aubrey competed in five competitions this season, placing in the top three at every event. Highlights of her season include 1st place finishes at the State Games of America in San Diego and 1st place at Badger State in Mosinee for her level.
At Nationals, Aubrey will perform two routines: a Character Showcase portraying a Girl Scout from Beetlejuice: The Musical and an Emotional Showcase set to “Lost Without You” by Freya Ridings.
With skaters traveling from Alaska to Florida to compete, the event brings together the nation’s top showcase skaters.
We wish Aubrey the best of luck as she takes the ice on the national stage!
Good luck, Aubrey! Wisconsin is cheering you on.
