Heat Advisory Issued for Central Wisconsin as Heat Index Nears 105°F
The advisory will be in effect from noon to 8 p.m. CDT for counties including Wood, Portage, Waupaca, Outagamie, Brown, Waushara, Winnebago, Calumet, and Manitowoc. Similar alerts extend across southern Wisconsin from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Extreme Heat and Health Risks
According to forecasters, heat index values may reach up to 104°F in Central Wisconsin, making it feel significantly hotter due to elevated humidity levels.
“Hot temperatures and high humidity can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for those working or spending extended periods outdoors,” said meteorologist Kuroksi from the National Weather Service in Green Bay.
Precautionary Measures Urged
- Drink plenty of water.
- Stay in air-conditioned buildings when possible.
- Avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours (12–5 p.m.).
- Check on elderly neighbors and vulnerable individuals.
- Limit outdoor work or exercise to early morning or evening.
- Never leave children or pets in vehicles.
Cooling Centers and Local Resources
Many communities are opening cooling centers to assist residents without air conditioning. Check with your local city or county government for details on locations and operating hours.
