MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – As warmer months bring outdoor chores to the forefront, ensuring the safety of young people involved in tasks like lawn mowing is more important than ever. The Childhood Agricultural Safety Network (CASN) invites parents, guardians, educators, and employers to join a free Lawn Mowing Safety Webinar on Friday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Central Time.
Hosted by the National Children’s Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety, a program of the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute, the webinar will provide critical information on how to properly assess, train, and supervise youth in lawn mowing tasks. The event is designed to help reduce preventable injuries and promote safer work practices in rural and suburban communities alike.
Attendees will learn:
- How to determine whether a young person is ready for mowing responsibilities
- Best practices for training and supervision
- Common hazards and how to avoid them

Dr. Diane Rohlman, Ph.D.
Associate Dean of Faculty, College of Public Health, University of Iowa
A leading researcher on occupational health and safety, Dr. Rohlman directs the Healthier Workforce Center of the Midwest and the Agricultural Safety and Health Training Program. Her expertise focuses on protecting younger workers from environmental and job-related risks.
Dr. Charles Jennissen, M.D.
Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine
As a pediatric emergency medicine specialist, Dr. Jennissen has devoted his career to injury prevention, particularly in rural settings. He brings valuable insights from decades of public health outreach and research on childhood injuries, including those involving lawn equipment.
