MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – According to Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department, a fire broke out at Forte Opening Solutions located at 1401 E 4th Street on Sunday morning following multiple explosions reported around 9:25 a.m.

Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department responded with six on-duty personnel using Engine 3, Engine 1, and Truck 1. One ambulance crew already engaged in an EMS call arrived approximately 15 minutes later. Due to confirmation of explosions and visible smoke from multiple locations, a MABAS Box alarm was activated to summon additional resources.

Fire crews encountered heavy smoke and multiple active fires with limited access points. The building’s deluge system had activated in several areas, assisting in controlling the fire’s spread. Firefighters conducted an offensive attack utilizing two aerial trucks, two engines, and various support units. The fire was brought under control after roughly four hours.

In total, 26 firefighters were involved in the response, including mutual aid from neighboring departments: Hewitt, Lincoln, Richfield, and Arpin Fire Departments; Wood County Central RIT; Wood County Rehab; as well as Marshfield Utilities and WE Energies. Approximately 50,000 gallons of water were used.

One firefighter sustained heat-related injuries and was treated and released on scene. Preliminary damage estimates stand at $75,000, though further assessment may increase the total. The fire caused significant structural damage, including blown-out explosion doors and ductwork, along with additional cuts made during firefighting operations.

Fire crews faced difficult conditions due to multiple small, hard-to-access fires and the risk of further dust explosions. The initial response was hindered by limited staffing, with only six firefighters on scene during the first 15 minutes.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
