The Edgar Wildcats return to Madison looking to match their rivals’ recent run of 3 straight state championships, and match the record of 10 state championships.
The Wildcats rolled through the regular season, with only two close games, a 14-0 win at D5 state semifinalist Stratford and a 9-6 neutral site game vs Marquette Academy (IL). The playoffs have brought different challenges, with 3 one one-score wins for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats are led by a dynamic rushing game, with Maverick Butt leading the way, 182 carries, 1167 yards, and 17 touchdowns; Gavin Mauer, 103 carries, 730 yards, and 9 touchdowns; and Tucker Streit, 55 carries, 209 yards, and 7 touchdowns.
The defense has been the other big leader, with the defense not giving up more than 14 points, including 8 shutouts.

Darlington has a streak going that they would love to break; they have lost 7 state championship games in a row, with their last championship in 1995. This streak includes coming 2nd in 4 straight years from 2013-2016. But Darlington might be bringing their best team to Madison in a while. They head to Madison a perfect 13-0 and rolled through the Division 6 playoffs, with their closest playoff game being a 37-3 win over Manitowoc Lutheran in the semifinals.
The Redbirds are led by dual-threat quarterback Zeke Zuberbuhler, who has completed 74% of his passes for 1312 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 1 interception, while also carrying the ball 122 times for 1128 yards and 18 touchdowns.
