Our final preview brings us to Division 1, featuring last year’s state champion and one of the most storied programs in recent history.

Arrowhead Warhawks

Playoff Wins: 56-12 vs Wausau West, 31-29 vs Brookfield East, 34-24 vs Sussex Hamilton, 19-17 vs Waunakee

Arrowhead is looking to make its 14th appearance at the WIAA State Football Championships. The Warhawks made 13 trips to Camp Randal in 22 years from 1993 to 2015, but have not been back in the last 10.

Arrowhead’s lone loss on the season came back in September a 21-17 loss to Muskego. And advanced to the state championship on a field goal in the final minutes of their semifinal game against Waunakee.

Arrowhead brings to Madison a balanced attack, led by junior quarterback Nolan Hanson, who has gone 129/207 passing for 1822 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.

Hanson’s primary target is senior Ryan Heiman, who has caught 37 passes for 697 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Jacob Siner leads the rushing attack, with 135 carries for 1048 yards and 11 touchdowns. Jebari Craig has 126 carries for 723 yards and 11 touchdowns, and Devin Nettles has 103 carries for 723 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Bay Port Pirates

Playoff Wins: 41-6 vs Appleton North, 49-8 vs Milwaukee Reagan, 42-13 vs Franklin, 38-35 vs Muskego.

Bay Port is looking to go back-to-back, after defeating Muskego in last year’s Division 1 State Championship Game 25-18.

The Pirates come into the championship game with 2 losses, a 23-7 non-conference loss to Kimberly and a 48-45 loss to D2 state championship participant West De Pere.

The Pirates come into the championship game with a 1900+ yard passer and a 2100+ yard rusher.

The passing game is led by Matt Stevens, who has gone 121/175 for 1983 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions, adding 132 carries for 874 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

Stevens’ primary target is Jackson Otradovec, who has caught 36 passes for 646 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Brady Moon leads the ground game, rushing for 2123 yards and 31 touchdowns on the ground, adding 30 catches for 413 yards and 8 touchdowns.
