Columbus Catholic Win Regional Title, Downs Royall

A 3-run home run from Shelby Spata in the bottom of the 6th helped the Columbus Dons win a regional title, downing the Royall Panthers 8-6.

Spata would go 1-4 with the 3 RBI and a run scored. Izzy Holz went 2-3 with a double, 3 stolen bases, a walk, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Abby Wojcik went 3-4 with 2 stolen bases and a run scored. The Dons did not have a strikeout in the game.

Akosua Yeboah got the start, going 5 innings, giving up 6 runs, 3 earned, on 6 hits, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Wojcik would go the last 2 innings, giving up no runs, on 2 hits and a strikeout.

Royall was led at the plate by Bria Gruen, who went 2-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Ashleigh Klipstein got the start, going 6 innings, giving up 8 earned runs, on 10 hits, and 5 walks.

The Dons will host Blair-Taylor in a Sectional Semifinal on Tuesday.
