Second-Inning Burst Enough To Lead Columbus Catholic Varsity Dons Past Thorp/Owen-Withee Redhawks Varsity

Columbus Catholic Varsity Dons scored eight runs in the second inning, which helped them defeat Thorp/Owen-Withee Redhawks Varsity 12-0 on Wednesday at Northside Park.

Columbus Catholic Varsity Dons got on the board in the top of the second inning after Ryan Bernick singled, scoring one run, Brock Wieland singled, scoring two runs, Carson Eckes singled, scoring one run, Mac Konieczny doubled, scoring two runs, and Devlin Timmler doubled, scoring two runs.

Columbus Catholic Varsity Dons added two runs in the third. Wieland singled to center field, making the score 10-0.

Konieczny earned the win for Columbus Catholic Varsity Dons. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking one. Evan Penterman took the loss for Thorp/Owen-Withee Redhawks Varsity. The hurler went three innings, surrendering 10 runs (six earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking two.

Harley Zurakowski went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Thorp/Owen-Withee Redhawks Varsity in hits. Thorp/Owen-Withee Redhawks Varsity turned one double play in the game.

Wieland led Columbus Catholic Varsity Dons with four runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Eckes and Wieland each collected two hits for Columbus Catholic Varsity Dons. Columbus Catholic Varsity Dons ran wild on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game. Columbus Catholic Varsity Dons didn’t commit a single error in the field. Ray Becker had the most chances in the field with 11.

Thorp/Owen-Withee Redhawks Varsity will travel to Columbus Catholic Varsity Dons for their next game on Thursday.
