MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The City of Marshfield is reminding pet owners of their responsibility to clean up after their animals when walking them in public areas. According to city ordinance, it is a violation to leave pet waste on property that does not belong to the owner.

Officials say the reminder comes after a growing number of complaints about animal waste being left on sidewalks, in city parks, wooded areas, and along bike and walking trails.

Pet waste must be picked up immediately and disposed of properly. Failing to do so not only violates local law but can also result in fines.

City leaders note that pet waste is more than just an inconvenience for neighbors and fellow park users. Left uncollected, it can:

  • Spread harmful bacteria and parasites.
  • Damage landscaping in parks and trails.
  • Create health hazards for children, families, and other pets.

The city is urging residents to carry bags when walking their dogs and to dispose of waste in proper trash bins.

For more information on city ordinances regarding pet ownership, residents are encouraged to visit the City of Marshfield’s official website or contact the city clerk’s office.
