MADISON, WI (OnFocus) – More than 60 leaders from across Central Wisconsin gathered in Madison for Central Wisconsin Days 2025, an event focused on advocating for key issues affecting the region. Organized by Centergy, Inc., the two-day event included meetings with legislators, policy discussions, and networking opportunities.

The event was held at the Best Western Premier Park Hotel and the Wisconsin State Capitol. On Advocacy Day, 37 participants were split into 14 teams. These teams met with every legislator or legislative office representing Central Wisconsin, and also visited lawmakers from other parts of the state due to the broad impact of the issues discussed.

Four main topics were brought to lawmakers’ attention:

  1. Modernizing tax increment financing (TIF) and historic tax credits
  2. Expanding housing options in small cities and rural communities
  3. Supporting education and workforce development
  4. Preserving and enhancing quality of life in the region

Participants described the meetings as productive and well-received. Many shared that the conversations helped build stronger relationships between community leaders and state officials.

Angel Laidlaw, President and CEO of Centergy, said the priorities brought forward reflect what communities in Central Wisconsin need to stay competitive.

“Central Wisconsin’s future depends on smart, strategic investment in the foundations of our regional prosperity. We need bold support for workforce housing, modern infrastructure that connects people and opportunity, strong educational partnerships that build our talent pipeline, and the continued flexibility of tools like Tax Increment Financing to drive redevelopment and growth,” she said. “These priorities reflect what our communities need now—and what they’ll need to stay competitive and resilient in the years ahead. Centergy is proud to lead the charge with our partners in advocating for the policies that will shape a stronger Central Wisconsin.”

Other leaders also emphasized the importance of a unified voice. Gautam Malik, CEO of Gamber-Johnson, said that when community leaders come together, they can make a bigger impact.

New participants like Matt Nordlund from The Boldt Company said the experience was valuable and encouraged other businesses to take part in the future.

The event began with a leadership reception on April 9 and continued with a full day of advocacy activities on April 10. The day included talks by regional and policy experts and team visits to the Capitol.

Centergy, a nonprofit organization, represents five counties in Central Wisconsin: Adams, Lincoln, Marathon, Portage, and Wood. Its mission is to support economic development and advocate for the region.
