Big 7th Inning Leads McDonell Central to Win Over Columbus Catholic

In a battle of former WISSA foes, McDonell Central rode a 4-run top of the 7th to beat Columbus Catholic 5-1.

Both teams would score in the 3rd, McDonell in the top on a wild pitch, scoring Grant Smiskey, and Columbus on a Carter Sommer single that scored Devlin Timmler.

The game would remain deadlocked at 1 until the top of the 7th, Smiskey singled in David Anderson, then Mason Busse reached on a wild pitch on a third strike, scoring Eli Stepp. A walk by Cael Holm would push in a run, followed by a run scored by Alan Meinen on another wild pitch.

Columbus would get runners in scoring position, but could not push a run across in the bottom of the 7th.

Mac Konieczny got the start for Columbus. He went 4 innings, giving up 1 earned run, on 4 hits, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Devlin Timmler went the next 2.2, giving up 4 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Carter Sommer would get the final out on a walk and a strikeout.

Cael Holm got the start for McDonell, going 6.2 innings, giving up just 1 earned run, on 6 hits, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts. David Anderson got the final out.

McDonell next plays host to Regis Catholic, and Columbus Catholic next hosts Osseo-Fairchild, both on Thursday.
