MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – In April 2025, Quality Roofing Inc. proudly celebrated the 20th work anniversary of Andy Stachowicz, whose journey with the company reflects growth, resilience, and a passion for craftsmanship. Hired by owners Mark and Pat Begotka in April 2005, Andy has become a cornerstone of the company’s sheet metal division, currently serving as a supervisor overseeing crews and projects with skill and leadership.

Andy’s story with Quality Roofing began when a friend tipped him off about an opening at the company. Intrigued by the opportunity, he applied, interviewed, and started the following week as a basic laborer on roofing installation crews. “That’s kind of how it all started,” Andy recalls, reflecting on the leap that led to two decades with the company.

Over the years, Andy’s role evolved significantly. For the first few years, he worked as part of the crew, focusing on installations with minimal responsibility. After a couple of years, his reliability and skill earned him more trust, leading to his promotion to leading his own crew. Today, as a sheet metal foreman and supervisor, Andy oversees multiple crews, ensuring quality work and mentoring younger employees. “I like designing wall systems and finding solutions to complex problems,” he says, highlighting the critical thinking and creativity his role demands.

A graduate of Spencer High School, Andy dove into construction right after graduation, initially working for a sheet metal company before joining Quality Roofing. He built his expertise through hands-on experience, a testament to his work ethic and the supportive environment at Quality Roofing. “I’ve been in construction since I was 18,” he notes, emphasizing the value of practical learning in his career.

What keeps Andy engaged after 20 years? The challenges. “I like how it can be challenging sometimes—it really gets me thinking,” he says. Whether designing wall systems or solving complex project issues, Andy thrives on the mental stimulation his work provides. He also appreciates the balance of intense days with more laid-back ones, which offer a break from the “mental stuff.”

Among the many projects Andy has worked on, one stands out: the third-floor concourse at Lambeau Field. Completed in recent years, the project was both stressful and rewarding due to its tight timeline and high-profile nature. “Everybody worked together really well,” Andy recalls, noting the camaraderie among crews and other trades on-site.

Driving around Wisconsin, Andy often points out buildings he’s worked on to his family, a source of pride. “I do that a little bit more than my wife would like,” he laughs, recounting how he’ll reminisce about specific jobs while passing by.

What makes Quality Roofing a place worth staying for two decades? For Andy, it’s the company’s supportive culture and opportunities for growth. “They let you learn from your mistakes and give you a lot of support,” he explains.

Unlike workplaces where errors lead to harsh criticism, Quality Roofing fosters an environment where employees are encouraged to grow without fear of heavy-handed repercussions. “You’re not dreading going to work, thinking, ‘I screwed this up on Friday, and I’m gonna get yelled at on Monday,’” Andy says.

The flexibility and trust from leadership also stand out. “They give you a lot of freedom and flexibility between jobs,” he notes, appreciating the lack of micromanagement. Additionally, Andy values the chance to mentor younger crew members, watching them take initiative and grow into their roles. “The last couple of years, getting some good guys working underneath me and seeing them take initiative has been really enjoyable,” he says.

As Andy looks to the next chapter of his career, he aspires to transition into a more managerial role, focusing on overseeing crews rather than hands-on site work. “I’d like to move up into more just management instead of doing the physical work,” he shares, seeing it as a natural progression after years of leading projects.

For young people or those considering a career in commercial roofing, Andy’s advice is clear: give Quality Roofing a chance.

“They’re very easy to work with and try to accommodate people as much as they can,” he says. The company’s welcoming environment helps employees focus on their work without unnecessary stress, making it an ideal place for newcomers to learn and grow. “They make it inviting for younger kids to feel like they want to come to work and do good work,” Andy adds, noting the rewarding nature of the job and the opportunity to earn a good living.

Currently, Andy is working on fabricating wall panels for a car dealership in Neillsville and field-measuring paneling at UW-Stevens Point, continuing to contribute to Quality Roofing’s reputation for excellence. His 20-year journey reflects not only personal growth but also the strength of a company that values its people. “I’m really appreciative of the chance Mark and Pat gave me when I first started out,” Andy says, crediting them for providing every opportunity to hone his craft.

“Andy’s precision, creativity and pride are evident in the many projects across Wisconsin that he has managed,” said Mark and Pat Begotka. “Customers love him and so does his QRI family. It’s truly been 20 years of excellence that continues to progress.”

As Quality Roofing Inc. celebrates Andy’s milestone, it’s clear his dedication, problem-solving spirit, and leadership have left a lasting impact—on the company, its projects, and the crews he mentors. Here’s to 20 years and counting!
