CLARK COUNTY, WI — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued an Air Quality Advisory affecting Clark County and 12 other counties across western and central Wisconsin. The advisory is in effect from 6:00 AM Friday, May 30, until 6:00 AM Saturday, May 31.
The air quality is expected to reach the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” (USG) level due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5), primarily from Canadian wildfire smoke drifting into the region ahead of an advancing cold front.
Counties under advisory include: Adams, Buffalo, Clark, Crawford, Grant, Jackson, Juneau, La Crosse, Monroe, Richland, Taylor, Trempealeau, and Vernon.
Health Guidance:
Sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with heart or lung conditions, are advised to limit prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion.
Those with asthma or heart disease should follow their prescribed health plans and monitor symptoms such as coughing, palpitations, or unusual fatigue. Immediate medical attention is advised if symptoms worsen.
Forecast Details:
- Air quality is expected to deteriorate across much of the state on Friday.
- Areas along the Mississippi River Valley may experience only moderate air quality.
- A cold front Friday evening will begin clearing the air from northeast to southwest.
- A second advisory may be issued Saturday if PM2.5 levels remain elevated in western regions.
