CENTRAL WI, WI (OnFocus) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has issued an Air Quality Advisory effective from midnight Monday through 12:00 PM Tuesday, impacting Clark County and surrounding areas across Central and Northwest Wisconsin.

This advisory is due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the air, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) expected to reach Unhealthy levels. The degradation in air quality is linked to heavy surface smoke moving in from the northwest, with concentrations peaking in the early morning hours and continuing into Tuesday.

Unhealthy air quality can impact everyone, but sensitive groups—including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory or heart conditions—should take extra precautions.

Recommendations:

  • Sensitive individuals: Stay indoors and limit physical exertion. Reschedule outdoor activities when possible.
  • People with asthma: Follow your asthma action plan and keep medication accessible.
  • People with heart conditions: Monitor for symptoms such as shortness of breath, palpitations, or fatigue. Contact a healthcare provider if symptoms arise.
  • General public: Reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors. Go indoors if symptoms occur.

The smoke front is expected to move southeast throughout the day, potentially affecting more of the state by Tuesday afternoon. A broader advisory may follow.
