Active Shooter Response Training at 212 River Drive, Wausau
WAUSAU, WI (OnFocus) – The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with SAFER Fire/EMS, will conduct a planned active shooter response training from May 5 to May 8, 2025, between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. each day at 212 River Drive, in the City of Wausau.
This training will involve using blank ammunition, which replicates the sound of real gunfire. Residents and businesses in the area may hear loud noises or see an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel. There is no threat to the public, and this event is a pre-scheduled, controlled training exercise.
The training strengthens inter-agency coordination between law enforcement, fire, and EMS in high-stress, critical incident scenarios. Preparing for active shooter events is essential to ensure a rapid, organized, and life-saving response should a real incident occur.
This joint exercise emphasizes the department’s ongoing commitment to public safety, emergency preparedness, and the well-being of the community.
