Free Educational Opportunity Will Feature International Speakers

Marshfield (OnFocus) – A free community event seeks to shed light on socialism.
Organized by Concerned Community Members of Marshfield, “What I Thought I Knew About Socialism” is designed to educate community members about this topical subject.

“At a recent event with some 69th assembly candidates, a question arose about youth engagement and our future,” said Carney. “A small group of us decided to offer educational discussions on pertinent issues such as the current interest in Socialism. We reached out to people that had real life experience living under different types of government to share their first hand experiences.”

The group plans to host an educational event each month this fall.

“Originally we set out to engage young adults, but quickly realized that this topic would interest most everyone,” said Carney. “We encourage everybody to attend, young (with parental permission) and old alike.”

Guest Speakers will include Dr. Yuri Maltsev, an international economist that served under Gorbechev and defected to the U.S. in 1989. Dr. Maltsev currently teaches at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI. Also speaking is Dr. Romel Garcia-Montilla, an esteemed critical care physician at the Marshfield Clinic, originally from Venezuela, who has recently rescued family members and brought them to the U.S.
Joe Giganti, host of the Regular Joe Show, heard weekdays throughout most of WI including WSAU, will serve as moderator.

“We are at a pivotal point in our nation. Many communities are facing destruction, riots, and mob rule,” said Carney. “We want to share the stories of people that have fled oppressive regimes to come to America for freedom, peace and prosperity.”

“Through this event, we hope to show that Socialism is already here, but we need to learn to recognize it,” she added.

“What I Thought I Knew About Socialism” will take place on Thursday, July 23 from 5:00-7:00pm at Wildwood Station (1800 S Roddis Ave, Marshfield). Food, drinks, and door prizes will be provided.
