Those planning a trip out of the country this summer will want to get an early start on their passport application.

Currently the processing time for applications through the Department of State is 6-8 weeks, up from the typical 4-6 weeks.

“It’s not uncommon at this time of year that they bump it up a little bit because the amount of applications that go through their system,” said Trent Miner, Wood County Clerk. “This time of year tends to get a little busier, but it wouldn’t surprise me that within a few weeks they bring it back down to 4-6 weeks.”

No appointment is necessary to stop by the Wood County Clerk’s office to apply for a passport, Monday through Friday from 8- 4 p.m. Requirements include two passport photos, proof of U.S. citizenship, and photo identification. Photos can also be taken at the office for a small charge.

Individual questions can be directed to the office at 715-421-8460. “Any questions, feel free to give us a call. We’re happy to help,” said Miner.
