Wisconsin Rapids (OnFocus) – Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools has updated parents with its intent to return instruction to 5 days a week. Below is a copy of the letter from WRPS District Superintendent Craig Broeren that updates parents.

Dear Parents and Guardians:

As a result of my communication from last week, I wanted to provide you with a brief update regarding surveillance testing and the number of positives we experienced this week. All surveillance testing has been completed for the week and we had three (3) additional student positives and one (1) staff positive from surveillance testing and two (2) additional student positives possibly as a result of being a close contact to two seperate previous cases. Total cases for this week are five (5) students and one (1) staff member. All relevant parent contacts have been made for these cases. This is much more in line with what we were seeing the weeks prior to spring break.

Although this is promising news, please keep in mind that a significant aspect that we are evaluating is whether or not individuals considered close contacts end up becoming positive. Which, depending on other details (i.e. connections outside of school, etc.), could be evidence of school spread. Our primary goal has been and continues to be to ensure that what we are doing in schools is not significantly contributing to the spread of COVID-19 in our students, staff and community. This is not to say that spread due to the school environment is not possible, rather that it is kept to a minimum. Please remember that it can take up to two weeks (14 days) for an individual to develop symptoms.

We will continue to monitor and evaluate circumstances next week and into the future and I will provide relevant updates when necessary. Based on this latest information, please continue to plan on students at WRAMS and LHS attending 5 days per week beginning on Monday, April 26th. This is subject to change based on COVID-19 case rates and subsequent issues if any. I will be as proactive as possible in communicating any changes.

COVID-19 continues to circulate in our community; please follow proper mitigation strategies whenever possible to help us keep our kids in school, in person for as long as possible.

Thank you once again for your continued support and patience as we work through a very difficult year. As always, feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Craig G. Broeren
