F-16 Fighting Falcon from Wisconsin Crashes in Michigan

MADISON, Wis. — An F-16 Fighting Falcon assigned to the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing at Truax Field Air National Guard Base in Madison crashed at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

At the time of the incident, the aircraft was on a routine training mission with one pilot on board. Emergency responders are on scene. The cause of the crash, as well as the status of the pilot, are unknown at this time, and the incident is under investigation.

In May the 115th Fighter Wing paid tribute to all of America’s heroes, including health care workers and first responders who have tirelessly supported communities across Wisconsin during the COVID-19 pandemic response. The 115th Fighter Wing performed a flyover with four F-16 Fighting Falcons, over the skies of Wisconsin on Tuesday, May 12.

The flyover was apart of Operation American Resolve, a nation-wide campaign, designed to show appreciation for the thousands of heroes on the frontlines, as well as the brave citizens and neighbors who have been battling and supporting the COVID-19 response.
